Fire and Heist review

Review of Fire & Heist by Sarah Beth Durst.

It is about a girl named Sky. She and her family are wyverns or as she calls themselves were-dragons. Money, gold and fame are important to their society. Stealing is deemed normal and your first heist is your coming of age in their community. But when her mothers heist goes wrong she goes missing and her family is shuned. This results in Sky losing her friends and boyfriend Liam. Trying to figure out what happened to her mother Sky tries to pull of the heist her mother did not complete. Making new (and old) friends and finding out long lost secrets along the way.

This is a great fantasy standalone! I always feel like there are many fantasy series but not that much standalones so I am always happy to find one. Sometimes you do not feel like commiting to a whole series and this book is perfect for that.

This is a great story about family and friendship. It is a quick read and entertaining read. The worldbuilding is fine. I just feel like some things could have been explained more. Worm and Gabriela are by far my favorite characters. The book is very lighthearted. Sky is a very optimistic and hopeful person. This makes it a great read for if you are feeling a bit down.

I feel like the plot of the book let me down a bit. You are in suspense the whole time of the book leading up to the heist and I feel like the reveals and the story onward could have been better. For me the book does not have that much dept (at least not as much as I would have liked) and the characters fall flat (there is not that much to them and not that much development).

For me this book was a fun quick and light read but it had not that much more to it. I will rate it 3 out of 5 stars.
